ANIMATION DESCRIPTION

Golgi Body Animation, Golgi Apparatus Animation, Golgi Complex Animation
This Golgi apparatus animation shows the function of a Golgi body, or Golgi complex. The Golgi, an organelle found within eukaryotic cells, packages proteins prior to being sent on, for cell secretion or use within a cell. Golgi bodies are composed of cisternae (stacks of membrane bound structures, flat membrane enclosed discs), which include special Golgi enzymes; these modify cargo proteins traveling through the Golgi apparatus. In this animation, vesicles from the rough endoplasmic reticulum are delivered to the Golgi, where they fuse with the network. Inside the Golgi apparatus, processing occurs within four functional regions: cis-Golgi network, medial-Golgi, endo-Golgi, and trans-Golgi network, where they are then packaged and sent on to their destination.
